O.E. Meyer Co. Announces CEO Transition

At a recent O.E. Meyer Co. Board of Directors meeting, Rod Belden announced that he will be resigning as chairman of the board and CEO of O.E. Meyer Co. after 26 years in that role and 48 years of continuous employment with the company. The Board immediately named him chairman emeritus in recognition of his leadership role throughout this time period, most especially as it relates to the corporate structure with employee ownership. Craig Wood was appointed chairman of the board/CEO; David Belden was named president of the company’s Healthcare Division/secretary; Dave Spencer was named President/Industrial Division. Brian Belden was elected to fill Rod Belden’s position on the Board of Directors and was appointed treasurer.

Airgas Opens Specialty Gas Facility in Tooele, Utah

Airgas opened a 20,000 sq. ft. specialty gas facility in Tooele, UT, on May 5. The state-of-the-art facility will provide a critical link in the supply chain for high-purity and precision-blended specialty gases used in research and commercial laboratories, environmental monitoring, and manufacturing. “By expanding our specialty gas footprint in Utah, we are able to increase our capacity to serve our customers throughout the Western states, while also investing in and bringing jobs to the region,” says Michael L. Molinini, Airgas president and CEO. “Airgas is very proud to be joining the community of Tooele, and we look forward to successful partnerships with the residents, businesses and civic associations of the region for many years to come.”

CGA Honors Distributors with Safety Award

The Compressed Gas Association announced the winners of the 2014 Distributor Safety Award at its annual meeting in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The award goes to the GAWDA member companies that have shown the greatest improvement in safety performance. Lampton Welding Supply (100,000+ employee exposure hours) and Cryo Weld Corporation (100,000 or fewer employee exposure hours) were honored.

United Stationers Names Interim CEO

Robert B. Aiken Jr., 52, was named interim president chief executive officer of United Stationers, effective immediately. He succeeds P. Cody Phipps, who has resigned as president and CEI and as a director to pursue another opportunity. A search committee has been set up to oversee the process of identifying a permanent CEO. “The Board and Cody believe that now is the right time to pursue a leadership transition,” says Charles K. Crovitz, chairman of United Stationers’ board of directors. “On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Cody for his years of service to the company and wish him all the best.” Aiken rejoined the United Stationers’ board of directors in February 2015 after previously servicing as a director from December 2010 to May 2014. Most recently, he was CEO of Feeding America, a domestic hunger-relief organization. Prior to this, he was CEO of the food company portfolio at Bolder Capital, a private equity firm. He also served in senior leadership positions at U.S. Foodservice. Inc., a foodservice distributor, where he most recently served as president and CEO. Prior to U.S. Foodservice, he was president of Milwaukee Sign Co, and president and CEO of Metz Baking Company. He began his career as a corporate attorney.

Airgas Acquires Alabama-Based Distributor

Airgas has acquired the assets and operations of Valley Air Supply, an industrial gas and welding supply distributor headquartered in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, with three additional locations in Decatur, AL; Jasper, AL; and Jackson, TN. Valley Air Supply generated more than $10 million in sales in calendar year 2014. This marks Airgas’ third acquisition since the beginning of the company’s fiscal year on April 1, 2015, totaling approximately $31 million in aggregate acquired revenue. Additional acquisitions include Liberty Welding Supply in Vancouver, WA and eKipro Rentals and Grupo Industrial Daymaga in Mexico.
