Abbott Gas Products Sold to Airgas

Airgas acquired Abbott Gas Products, headquartered in Olean, NY, with additional locations in Jamestown and Hornell, NY. The company was founded in 1875. “Joining the Airgas team is an exciting opportunity for all of us at Abbott and our customers,” says Mike Higgins, president of Abbott Gas Products. “We look forward to the benefits of combining forces with an industry leader and the enhanced level of service we will be able provide to our customers.”

ARCOS Names General Manager

Harry Wehr

Harry Wehr was appointed general manager of Arcos Industries. Wehr has held numerous positions within the company during his 35-year tenure and recently served as Arcos’ technical director. Prior to his employment at Arcos, Wehr had extensive experience in the shipbuilding and commercial nuclear industries. His areas of expertise include stainless steel and high nickel alloys, dissimilar metal joining, filler metal selection for cryogenic service and weld procedure development. Wehr also serves as chairman of the AWS A.5 Committee of Filler Metals and Alloyed Materials.

Astaras Buys Anviloy Product Line

Astaras, Inc. purchased the entire Anviloy business from CMW International. According to Astaras President Steve Fyffle, “The timing of the Anviloy purchase is perfect, as the IBG Group has just relocated and expanded its tungsten production facility, which will increase our ability to grow our existing tungsten heavy metals materials, tungsten copper and specialty tungsten alloys.” Tungsten heavy metals will be sold and distributed by Astaras under the Weldstone brand. Astaras and Weldstone Europe GmbH are both members of the German holding company IBG.

ORS Nasco President Resigns

Larry Davis, president of ORS Nasco, will join Tacoma, WA-based Stellar Industrial Supply Inc. as an equity partner, executive vice president and chief commercial officer on September 8. Davis will remain at ORS Nasco until September 5. “Larry is one of the finest people I know, and we are thrilled and honored to have him joining our organization. Our plan is to leverage Larry’s talents and experience to accelerate our company’s journey to excellence,” says Stellar President John Wiborg. Davis joined ORS Nasco in 2009 and became president in 2010.

Praxair Expands New Mexico Nitrogen Plant

Praxair is expanding its industrial gases facility in Kirtland, NM. The expansion includes a new nitrogen plant that will increase production capacity in 2014. Demand for pipeline and liquid nitrogen continues to grow as oil and gas operators develop new resources in the San Juan Basin, which includes southwestern Colorado, northwestern New Mexico and adjacent areas in Arizona and Utah.
