Jerry Wessels Named President of Superior Welding Supply Company

Jerry Wessels became president of Superior Welding Supply Company in Waterloo, IA, on January 1. Wessels started at the company as a route driver, moved into sales and then became sales manager. Former President Steve Christoph retired on December 31, 2013.

Norco, Inc. Expands with Acquisition in Southeastern Washington

Norco, Inc. acquired Walla Walla Home Medical in Walla Walla, WA. Norco President Ned Pontious says, “This is a great time for healthcare in the Walla Walla Valley. A Northwest family-owned company serving the great hospitals and residents of this community helps to strengthen a local, continued partnership in the area.” Now with 16 Norco branches in Washington, this additional location will continue to strengthen healthcare, the care of patients in their homes, and Norco’s commitment to the Walla Walla area and Southeastern Washington.

Red Ball Oxygen Reorganizes Leadership Team

Red Ball Oxygen promoted four individuals to its leadership team. “This new organization better reflects our strategic commitment to an expanded operating platform and growth in new markets, particularly Texas,” says President Bob Ewing.

Jarrod Lipsey was appointed senior vice president, business development, and will be responsible for leading strategic business development activities throughout the company’s operating geography. Lipsey joined the company in 1993 and was previously vice president of sales, where he spearheaded the most dynamic period of growth in the company’s history.

Marty Jones was appointed vice president, Ark-La-Tex. Based in Shreveport, LA, he will have responsibility for Louisiana, Arkansas, and East Texas. Jones joined the company in 1994 and was most recently regional manager, LA.

Jason Kirby was appointed vice president, North Texas, and will be based in Grand Prairie, TX, responsible for the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex and surrounding area. With the company since 2011, Kirby served as regional manager and established the company’s new distribution center and fill plant in Grand Prairie.

Rick Moellendick was appointed vice president, Gulf Coast. Based in Houston, TX, he will have responsibility for Houston and surrounding geographies. Moellendick joined the company in 2013 as regional manager and led the expansion of the company’s operations in Houston.

Acme Expands Sales Team

Acme Cryogenics is pleased to announce the recent appointment of John McGinley as sales engineer. He will be based in Allentown, PA, with a primary focus on sales and technical support of vacuum jacketed piping to new and existing customers. McGinley holds degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration and has extensive experience in industrial design, manufacturing, sales and project management. He also has worked as a mechanical designer in the mineral processing, heat transfer, boiler and process equipment industries.

Norco, Inc. has promoted Craig Wells to the position of safety product manager where he will be responsible for marketing company products and services, sales training, business intelligence, price evaluations and vendor relationships. Wells has 29 years of experience in sales and has been with Norco for 19 years, working initially in customer service, then in safety sales.

Tech Air Makes Two Acquisitions

Tech Air has acquired Compressed Gases of Augusta (CGA) in Augusta, GA, and A-L Welding Supply (ALWS) in Gainesville, GA. CGA was established in 1991 and serves throughout Northeast Georgia and South Carolina. A-L Welding Supply has been in operation for more than 50 years. Tech Air CEO Myles Dempsey Jr. says, “These transactions signify our continued strategy of growth through selective acquisitions of high-quality regional distributors. CGA and ALWS serve as strategic entry points into the highly attractive Georgia and South Carolina markets. Adding CGA and ALWS positions Tech Air well to serve customers from a broadened geographic footprint.” Joost Thesseling, managing director at CI Capital Partners, adds, “The acquisitions of ALWS and CGA represent the next step in Tech Air’s buy-and-build strategy in the highly fragmented U.S. packaged gas sector.”

Keen Compressed Gas Co. Hires New Sales Manager

Justin Johnson, a 12-year veteran of the welding and industrial gas industry, was named sales manager at Keen Compressed Gas Co. Johnson will work with Keen’s sales team to gain existing customer knowledge and will be responsible for managing Keen’s outside sales team. Johnson has an MBA degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and experience with solution-based selling and profit and loss management.

IWDC Hires Event & Meeting Planner

Jenne Schwartz has joined the Independent Welding Distributors Cooperative as event and meeting planner. In this role, Jenne will be responsible for planning, promoting and executing all of IWDC’s events. Schwartz comes to IWDC from St. Vincent Health where for the last five years she was responsible for event planning and production and also served as a marketing specialist. Prior to St. Vincent she worked at a specialist physician practice and in the education industry.
