Norco Acquires Valley Medical Shoppe
Boise, ID — Norco acquired Valley Medical Shoppe, a respiratory and medical supply firm with locations in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, and Rexburg, ID. “This is a great move for Norco and for health care in Eastern Idaho,” says President Ned Pontious. “We are excited to strengthen this region and continue to serve medical facilities, patients, and these great communities. As Norco grows, we need great people and facilities. We have found that by adding these stores and people to the Norco family.” Valley Medical Shoppe was founded 26 years ago by Gary Aiman and Rick Smith.

Kroll Elected as CGA Chairman
Basking Ridge, NJ — The Board of Directors of the Compressed Gas Association appointed Bill Kroll, chairman and CEO at Matheson, as Chairman of the Board of the CGA. “For most of my career, I have worked alongside the CGA, and oftentimes worked with it on several important initiatives. To now serve as its Chairman is an honor and a privilege—especially as the CGA celebrates its centennial,” says Kroll, who will serve as Chairman through April 2013.

Air Liquide to Build North Dakota ASU
Houston, TX — Air Liquide Industrial U.S. LP will build a new Air Separation Unit (ASU) to supply nitrogen to industrial customers, particularly those in the oil and gas sector, in northwest North Dakota. The new ASU is slated to be operational by the end of 2012 and will be strategically located in the Bakken reserves. “We are positioning ourselves to better serve existing customers and to capture new business opportunities in North Dakota, especially in the Bakken oil reserves,” says Mark Lostak, president, Air Liquide Industrial U.S. LP. “The potential throughout this region is significant, and we are prepared to meet the growing demand for nitrogen to develop these important domestic energy resources.”

S. J. Smith’s Hanlon to Retire
Davenport, IA — S. J. Smith Company Vice Chairman John Hanlon will retire from his post as of January 1, 2012. The company would like to thank him for his 17 years of dedication. Hanlon served as president of the S. J. Smith Company for 16 years and vice chairman for the past year. After obtaining a degree in business and an advanced degree in law, Hanlon has spent 35 years in the industry, 18 with gas manufacturers and the last 17 with S. J. Smith Company. Hanlon’s career started with Liquid Carbonic in 1975. Since then, he has worked for AGA, Liquid Air, Messer and S. J. Smith. In addition, Hanlon served as secretary for the B.I.G. group for 15 years and was an executive committee member of the IGSA for 9 years. Everyone at S. J. Smith wishes him the best.

White House Honors Praxair Engineer
Danbury, CT — Praxair Project Controls Engineer Tamara E. Brown was one of 12 individuals honored at the White House as Champions of Change. Brown founded a program called Tech Savvy, hosted by the University of Buffalo and presented by the American Association of University Women, which inspires middle-school girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Champions of Change honors teachers, industry leaders, students and nonprofit leaders who have made great efforts to reduce the barriers that drive many girls and women away from high-paying, highly rewarding careers as American innovators. Brown led Praxair to achieve its first FDA-cleared medical device and is now a member of Praxair’s U.S. project execution team, where she controls cost and scheduling for the engineering and construction of large capital projects.

Cleveland, OH — Harry Sadler, manager, Military and Shipbuilding at Lincoln Electric was appointed to chair the International Institute of Welding’s Select Committee on Shipbuilding. “My focus will be bringing to global shipbuilders the latest scientific and technical information on new technology and improved manufacturing methods and material handling concepts, all with the objective of helping them grow their businesses,” Sadler says. He has more than 40 years of experience working with arc welding methods and processes at Lincoln Electric and has held leadership roles on the Welding Research Council Board of Directors and as Section Chair of the American Welding Society.

Hypertherm Named to Best Companies HOF
Hanover, NH — Hypertherm was inducted into Business NH Magazine’s Best Companies to Work For Hall of Fame for consistently demonstrating leadership in corporate responsibility. For 15 years, the Best Companies to Work For competition has recognized businesses that go out of their way to create fun and beneficial workplaces for their employees. To be in the Hall of Fame, companies must have won the competition four of five of the past five years. Hypertherm is the only company in New Hampshire to achieve Hall of Fame status twice.

Chart Expands in Minnesota
Garfield Heights, OH — Chart Industries is opening a plant in Owatonna, MN, a $4 million expansion that will create at least 100 jobs. The company has a facility in New Prague, MN, where it employs 415 people. The new plant will seek to meet the growing demand for LNG across the county. Chart expects to begin production in Owatonna in January at a 141,000-square-foot industrial plant, and will receive several state tax incentives.
