nexAir Adds Propane Plant
Memphis, TN — nexAir has added a new propane filling plant to its production plant and distribution facility in Memphis. The new propane plant increases nexAir’s propane cylinder fill capacity by 400 percent. Currently nexAir’s propane volume is up 52 percent and is expected to continue to grow. In addition to this increased volume capacity, the system provides a safer operating and filling environment. “With the addition of this propane plant, we will be able to respond more quickly to customer orders and provide more efficiency than ever before,” says Chuck Britton, vice president of plant operations for nexAir. “This installment helps demonstrate our commitment to serving the forklift propane market with enhanced safety and service.”

Oxylance Grows with Warehouse
Birmingham, AL — Oxylance built a new warehouse at its Birmingham headquarters that allows the company to grow its product lines. “We recognized the need to create additional inventory space as business increases in our oxygen hose and surcut cutting rods lines,” says President David Cowart. “The warehouse frees up space in our other buildings that we can devote to production on those two product lines.” With the addition, Oxylance looks to boost inventory levels and have quicker response times.

Central WS Expands Cylinder Maintenance
Marysville, WA — Central Welding Supply is building a new cylinder maintenance facility in Smokey Point, WA. Along with existing cylinder valving equipment, the company will add new equipment for ultrasonic cylinder inspection and a semi-automated cylinder shot-blaster to resurface cylinders in preparation for painting. “The new systems will round out functionality in our cylinder maintenance operation, providing us with the capabilities to paint, re-valve, and re-test all cylinder sizes,” said Dale Wilton, president and CEO. The cylinder maintenance facility will include a controlled environment cylinder painting and drying room. Wilton expects the facility to be fully operational in early 2012.

Presidents Appointed at Airgas
Radnor, PA — Airgas named Ted R. Schulte president – Airgas Refrigerants. Schulte joined Airgas in 1997 as president of Airgas Carbonic, before becoming vice president of Airgas gas operations in 1998. He became senior vice president in 2000 and division president in 2003. Martin Wehner was appointed to president – Airgas Specialty Products. He has served as vice president of sales for Airgas Specialty Products since joining Airgas in 2005, has more than 20 years of experience in the ammonia industry and has held a variety of positions in sales, operations and technical service.

Rail Carrier Honors Linde
Murray Hill, NJ — Linde North America was awarded the Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award for 2010 by Norfolk Southern Corporation, the rail fleet carrier for Linde’s plants and depots in Alabama, Illinois, Iowa, Mississippi, Ohio and West Virginia. Linde shipped over 2000 railcars in 2010, without incident, to earn the award. “This award acknowledges our focus on railcar safety at our plants and depots and the hard work and dedication of our employees,” says Fred Kinkin, head of supply for Linde North America. “Safety is one of this company’s most important core values.”

WorldSkills 2011 in London, England
Lincoln Supports ‘Olympics of Welding’
Cleveland, OH — Lincoln Electric announced an agreement with WorldSkills International to become an official Global Industry Partner. The event, held every two years in a different international city—London in 2011—features a welding competition where participants have to fabricate various mild steel pieces, including a pipe, plate and T-fillet joint. Competitors are also assigned two sheet metal projects using aluminum and stainless steel, to be completed with the GTAW process. Leading up to the competition, Lincoln provided training for the U.S. entrant in the contest, Brad Clink, who secured entry by winning the SkillsUSA welding contest.
