Weldco Acquired by Praxair
Danbury, CT — Praxair Distribution, Inc. acquired the assets of Weldco Inc., located in Cincinnati, OH. Weldco has 23 employees and sales of $8 million. John Panikar, president of Praxair Distribution, Inc., says the acquisition of Weldco complements several other recent acquisitions made in the first half of 2011 and those expected to be completed by year-end. “Praxair will continue to take a proactive, targeted approach to acquire high-quality independent distributors aligned with Praxair’s business strategy,” Panikar says.

DLA Honors Earlbeck
Baltimore, MD — Earlbeck Gases & Technologies was honored with the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) New DLA Contractor of the Year award during the 2011 DLA Industry Conference and Exhibition in Columbus, OH. The award is presented to a large or small business that contracted for the first time with DLA and demonstrated overall excellence in product quality, on-time delivery, customer service, reliability, dependability, consistency and accuracy. During the conference, Earlbeck President Jim Earlbeck was also featured on a panel consisting of leaders from five small businesses recognized with 2011 DLA Business Alliance Awards. The panelists were invited to offer their input about doing business with DLA and best business practices for success.

Matheson Sets Up in Wine Country

The location is part of Matheson’s Western Zone, Central Region, and is strategically positioned in the Napa Valley Wine Country. The center is located in a high traffic area with easy access to winery, mechanical and medical customers. “Our new St. Helena winery, welding and gas center will allow us to better meet our existing customer needs and gain new customers in this strong agricultural/industrial area,” says Tim Edwards, Northern Central Regional General Manager, Matheson.

McCausland Elected as Chairman
Radnor, PA — Airgas announced that, based upon certified results following the company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders, all four of Airgas’ nominees have been elected to the Airgas Board of Directors. The Company noted that each of its nominees, Peter McCausland, Lee M. Thomas, John C. van Roden Jr. and Ellen C. Wolf, received the support of 80 percent or more of the shares voted. Broadridge, the independent Inspector of Elections, certified the results of the stockholder vote at Airgas’ 2011 Annual Meeting. Following the annual meeting, the Board of Directors unanimously elected company founder and CEO McCausland as chairman of the board, and van Roden as presiding director.

Mapes Named Lincoln COO
Cleveland, OH — Lincoln Electric named Christopher L. Mapes as chief operating officer. As COO, Mapes will have responsibility for all of Lincoln Electric’s businesses, including the North American segment, the International segments and the Harris Products Group segment, with presidents for those units reporting to him. He has 25 years of experience, most recently as executive vice president of the A.O. Smith Corporation and president of its electrical products unit.

Linden, NJ — Cyberweld.com, the Internet arm of J.W. Goodliffe & Son, was featured at the recently concluded Yahoo! Merchant Summit in Santa Clara, CA. The Summit is an annual gathering of Yahoo!’s largest Internet retailers. Cyberweld president Bob Goodliffe was interviewed on stage during the opening business session and was one of four merchants that took part in the discussion panel “Secrets of Success – Top Merchants Share Their Stories.” Goodliffe was also interviewed on camera for a future Yahoo! Merchant Solutions promotional campaign.

Ohio Linde Unit Gets Upgrade
Murray Hill, NJ — Linde North America will upgrade its supply network in the U.S. Midwest by significantly increasing production at its Delta, OH, air separation plant. Linde will add a 575-ton-per-day nitrogen liquefier, which will capture spare molecules the plant is already producing. The liquefier is scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2013. It will replace existing nitrogen production from an older Linde air separation plant in the Midwest.

CryoVation Expands NJ Operations
Fort Myers, FL — CryoVation relocated its New Jersey manufacturing and service facility to a larger building that features an expanded pump fabrication and repair department, new customer training center and high purity lab. The 20,000 sq. ft. center also features an office complex with workstations for visiting customers or vendors. The additional space allows the expansion of all manufacturing, but particularly the company’s vaporizer and large structure business.

Wastewater Fuels Air Products
Air Products opened a California hydrogen fueling station drawing its feedstock from the municipal wastewater treatment plant at the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) in Fountain Valley. “We look to this type of technology as a platform to meet the renewable requirement and to supply even cleaner hydrogen to the next generation of fuel cell vehicles,” says Ed Heydorn, business development manager – Hydrogen Energy Systems at Air Products. In addition to generating hydrogen, the project also creates electricity and heat from this renewable source.

AWISCO Adds to Sales Team
Maspeth, NY — Victor Fuhrman was appointed as vice president – sales and marketing at AWISCO. He has been with the company since 1979, most recently serving as CIO and marketing VP for the last 6 years. Alan Goldberg was named business development manager. He brings years of sales management experience in industrial distribution, including a position as national sales manager for Bright Star Industries. Michelle Grace and Ouidad Kadri joined AWISCO’s outside sales team as territory managers. Grace served as a New York/New Jersey representative for Bosch Power Tools. Kadri comes to AWISCO from Sysco-Unilever and served as sales supervisor for the US Navy 5th Fleet Exchange in Bahrain.

US Airweld President Dies
J. Marc Boccaccio, 45, president and CEO of US Airweld in Phoenix, AZ, passed away on August 19. Mr. Boccaccio was the third generation leader of the family business. Under his direction for the last 20 years, the company grew to 14 locations throughout Arizona and New Mexico. Mr. Boccaccio was survived by many friends and family members. He was loved by all.
