A total of 70 GAWDA members gathered for the East Lansing, MI, regional meeting. The event kicked off with a Mai Tai Monday networking event, where attendees were treated to BBQ chicken by chef Dave Sullivan of 3M and “cheeseburgers in paradise” from grill master Paul Virgi of Superior Products. The musical stylings of Jimmy Buffet set the mood for a great night of networking among members.
At Tuesday’s breakfast meeting at Timber Ridge Golf Club in East Lansing, Past President Gary Stoneback of Metro Welding Supply gave an update on the association. Jim Herring of SafTCart, a member of GAWDA’s Safety Committee, brought members up to speed on recent committee activities. An update on the Membership Committee was provided by American Torch Tip’s Jack McCulloch.
The meeting’s featured speakers were Jim Kramer of Gallagher Financial Services and Jake Pease of The Hoffman Group. They delivered an enlightening talk on where healthcare costs are heading and how companies can reduce their costs.
The meeting then moved outside to a beautiful, sunny day for an 18-hole scramble golf tournament won by Tom Cregan of Evergreen Midwest, Ken Flora of Welder Service, Dwight Spell of DynaFlux and Phil Bauman of Erie Technologies. Matheson’s Howard Hubert won closest to the pin with a shot that was mere inches from what would have been a first-ever East Lansing regional meeting hole-in-one!
Regional Chairman Bob Ranc would like to again thank all of the event sponsors and all the people who helped to make this a great meeting.
