AWISCO’s green roof will be visible from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, demonstrating the potential for green practices in industrial areas.
Maspeth, NY — AWISCO was awarded $206,188 to construct a green roof on the company’s Maspeth, Queens, building as part of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s 2011 Green Infrastructure Grant Program. The roof will manage over 390,000 gallons of storm water per year, reducing combined sewer overflows to Newtown Creek. “AWISCO is always eager to partner with local community development groups and governmental agencies to improve the infrastructure and quality of life in our city,” says President Lloyd Robinson. “Our green roof will protect the water in the Newtown Creek, reduce our carbon footprint and improve air quality.”
